I'm not an expert on the linux kernel (to put it mildly)
but I compiled 2.1.85 with ecgs-1.0.1 and glibc-2.0.6
(on SCSI and IDE machines) without any problems at all.

I'm not quite clear why everyone is using gcc-2.8.0
rather than egcs, but then as I said I'm not an expert in these things.

[I'm not sure if this is relevant or necessary,
but I compiled glibc, then compiled egcs,
then re-compiled glibc and then re-compiled egcs.]
