However, the problem is NOT the adapter. Another developer here built
a 2.1.85 kernel with different CONFIG options and his kernel did
NOT have problems with FTP of large files.
So, some optional kernel component is causing the problem. I hope
to spend some time this week mixing and matching options between
his config and mine to determine which CONFIG option introduces
the problem.
