Got some nice 533Mhz alphas to play with :)
Couple of questions/comments:
1) I can't seem to get any kernels I build to boot?! unless I apply the
alpha-diffs-2.0.32 on ftp.digital.com. I understand that these should not
be neccessary according to various docs on the net. Can someone explain
what the diffs change that make the thing work?! I have also tried 2.1.x
latest kernels -- they won't boot either and there are no alpha-diffs for
them.
2) When booting (on a patched 2.0.33 kernel), the tulip driver gives a
"kernel unaligned trap". Seems harmless.... networking is fine, 1.1Mb/sec
Linux-Linux on local subnet, see those NT advocates gasp at the
performance :)
3) make menuconfig is very broken, especially with regards to Alpha model
selection. I notice a fix for this has appeared in the pre2.1.89 patches
-- perhaps a candidate for 2.0.33 backport since segfaults in a menu
config system are not good...
4) make menuconfig is further broken: on the initial run it does not set
CONFIG_PCI even though config.in sets it for my model of alpha (LX164!).
This caused headache until I used just plain "make config" which appeared
to get things perfect.
Now I've got a 2.0.33 kernel going though it seems rock solid and
--fast--.
One gripe: Every time a userspace program segfaults the kernel seems fit
to printk() about the event.
