2.0.34pre6 and pre7 3c509 problems

I'm seeing immediate failures on booting with the pre6 and pre7
kernels with the error "eth0 too much work in interrupt status = 2110"
continuously reported and the machine otherwise locked up solid.

Falling back to the 3c509.c from pre5 makes everything work ok. I guess
this is something to do with the new max_interrupt_work code failing.
Anything I can do to help debug the problem ?
