The new aic7xxx drivers are great,
- I ran my usual test (makeing md5-sums on ~15000 files in
~400 directiories hierarchy, a new bash-process per directory,
storing and comparing the md5's in a central file) wich allways
hangs at least one process in disk-wait deadlock.
Now it works, and goddammit - it's fast again!!
Tomorrow (ie. in a couple of days) I will try the new patch on a
SMP-system with onboard aic7xxx controller, that one hangs badly with
2.1.x versions without the new features.
ASAP I will allso try a 3940UW controller, if it works, then I'm really
happy!!
The kmod / modutils stuff is still horrible, I got to pre-load (ie.
`mkinitrd --with <module>`) most of the modules to get it to work,
grrr!!!
Otherwise 2.1.94-96 "feels" really good, the 2.2.x will be so stable you
can forget all about buying expensive stuff from sun/hp/et.al
