since i upgraded to 2.1.96 all sb16 WAVE output problems seem gone. quake
has problems, but most other programs work with dma audio output NOW!!!
the midi - problems persist. on my sb16/mpu401 with the roland piggy-back
board the midi-players react quite slow. they respond to user interactions
as "stop playing" or movements in the song, but the delay is about 10 sec.
the app blocks with this strace:
after some delay the app responds and continues.
a second problem is related to midi timing. things got a bit worse, as
midi sounds might speed up or slow down in the middle of the play in an
unmotivaed matter. sorry, but i can't strace into that (and i'm not sure
the trace itself is of some use)
