Strange PPA (Parallel Zip Disk) with 2.1.103+

Since 2.1.103 I have had lockups when trying to mount the Zip disk.
loading the mod_scsi and ppa modules, the status outputs look fine,
but if I try to execute any command on /dev/sda4 the system locks
solid --- even SysRq commands to sync and unmount are locked out
(although the SysRq reboot command still works)

Please let me know what information you might need on this.
