The newer driver works fine at home on my non-Compaq generic system with an
internal 4.5 GB UW drive. I wonder whether this problem could be
Compaq-related or perhaps only applies to Ultra-Narrow drives.
Here's a partial hand-transcription of the log from the problem drivers:
...
Scanning channel for devices
scsi: aborting command due to timeout
SCSI host 0 abort (pid 1) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
SCSI host 0 channel 0 reset (pid 1) timed out - trying harder
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
SCSI host 0 abort (pid 1) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
SCSI host 0 channel 0 reset (pid 1) timed out - trying harder
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
etc.
Here's the full transcript from the working 5.0.13 driver:

I am clearly more popular than Reagan. I am in my third term. Where's Reagan?
Gone after two! Defeated by George Bush and Michael Dukakis no less.
