I have spent the last several days confirming my system will not boot on any
kernel with any configuration from 2.1.110 forward. I've tried everything
that I can think of to remove un-needed items to see which if any are causing
it.
So far, here is what I am seeing.
During boot up of the latter kernels, the last line printing is :
PCI->APIC IRQ transform: (B1,I0,P0)-> 16
_
Sys-Req-magic doesn't work and a full blown reset or power down is required to
get the system back.
Under 2.1.109, the system flies by that area of the boot process, but I did
notice that the PCI->APIC IRQ transform doesn't touch 16. Both 19 and 17 are
printed twice on the 2.1.109 kernel, but I get 19 and 17 twice on the latter
kernels, plus 16.
After hearing of the Xeon updates in 2.1.110, I am wondering if something
there didn't cause this problem. I've compared the code in 2.1.109 and
2.1.110, but I don't see anything wrong with either one of the APIC codes.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? Maybe it is a kswapd problem as
well, since that is the next function to be executed after the IRQ transforms.
I am available to run any tests necessary to figure this out.
My System:
Intel DK440LX MB
128Meg RAM
On board adaptec 7895 SCSI controller
2-233Mhz CPU's
On board crystal audio sound controller
On board Intel etherexpress pro10/100 controller
Kernel 2.1.109, SMP enabled, 5.1.0pre6 patches (aic7xxx), otherwise stock
kernel.
