Nope, older AS/400's were custom silicon (AS/400's are an extension of the
System/38's, which in turn was an extension of System/36, which came from
System/3 if memory serves). As I recall, the pre-ppc machines were really C
hostile (even more C hostile than the Data General MV/Eclipse I did a C
compiler for :-)
