No sound in 2.1.116 also cannot compile patch 2.1.117

Hello,
I am writing this to let you all know that I have a few problems.
For one, I "have" compiled kernels 2.1.115 and 2.1.116 without a problem.
Except for a few cosmetic problems in the kernel that it dumps to the console
during boot. it says that I am using obsolete /dev/cua1 update software to
/dev/ttyS1. I have rm'ed /dev/modem and the did a ln -s /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem.
I can now dial out but the kernel "still" gives me that message.

Also during the kernel booting it says that I have more than one DMA specified
and this cant be. Well I know for a fact that my sound card uses more than one
DMA. I have an AWE-64 PNP. It also says that it has errors in modprobe when I
try to run it in /usr/sbin/sndconfig. Could it be because of kmod? If so what
do I need to do to get my sound card working? I can play music off CD but I
can't use like REAL-VIDEO.

Now for my final prob, I have downloaded the patch for 2.1.117 and did a
gzip -cd patch-2.1.117.gz | patch -p0
it then untars the archive into /usr/src/linux.
I then do a make mrproper, then make xconfig, then make dep;make clean
then I did a make modules
then make zImage
it stopped at the kernel_o.
Does anyone have any reasons why this would happen.????

Thank you
