If I remember correctly, Peter Joot is working on CLONE_PID. He is
adding a 'tid' (e.g. thread ID) filed to various places in the kernel.
According to him, this is not trivial, and so won't get into 2.2. But I
believe it IS being worked on. You may want to search the linux-kernel
archives for this.
