117 + mount : what I'm forgetting?

Hello,
I have installed 2.1.117 kernel and mount2.8b-alpha,
yet when I try to mount dos filesystem (For example)
the mount hangs (it is unkillable by any signal).

So the question is what I'm forgetting about? Do I need
to patch glibc ?

It is RH 5.1 system w/ glibc 2.

Also, whne I boot 2.0.35 and try mount the same file system
it works fine.
