It depends.
Iff you're running a kernel that's got the enhanced memory
detection code in it and it's only occasionally detecting
your memory, then it's probably a kernel-level problem.
If you're running a kernel that _doesn't_ do better memory
detection (1.2.x, 2.0.x; {x<35?}), it's a FAQ and many
solutions exist.
