Uhmmm... some time ago I've suffered a crash from group quotas...
On a 486/12Mb ram with 2.1.106 after rebuilding the kernel, since I'm
a little scarce on space (this machine is really a simple proxy)
I've 'make clean'... after some time I've found init in 'D' state
After reboot (with sysrq), fscking found no serious damage (only some
deletion times), made make clean and init stopped... after disabling
group quota all went ok
Can it be this case? I've not reported it because there was some
similar reports...
BTW, I've:
-rw------- 1 root wheel 2097152 Sep 17 21:44 quota.group
-rw------- 1 root wheel 456480 Sep 17 21:27 quota.user
Is it normal a 2 megs quota.group?
