I have the some problems with ppp. I use the 2.0.x kernel series, and
the problem happens since a longer time than i can think back (I
didn't ask about it earlier as my old (server) machine had serious memory
hardware probs, and i accounted this for every problem that apeared)
When I run ppp, suddenly, after random times, ppp stops working (I
don't get any packet over the link anymore) and lots of the following
is logged into the messages file:
Oct 11 14:07:29 schoenberg kernel: ppp: frame with bad fcs, excess = d65f
with intermediate lines of:
Oct 11 14:07:29 schoenberg kernel: ppp: got runt ppp frame, 3 chars
this happens with different modems. The server machine doesn't log
anything (except that the connection is closed when I finally kill the
whole thing at home).
Of course this may be a configuration problem on the server/client,
but I don't understand what the error message means...
Any ideas what can be wrong?
thanks a lot,
jtl
