That's broken idea. It is what ioctl's are for.
(remember, most of the entries in the proc, especially those under /proc/sys
are mapped to ioctls )
/proc -> humans, (perhaps a simple shell scripts)
ioctl -> programs.
so the first is text, the 2nd is equivalent to binary.
