I've had this problem with my system here. Single processor PII350 with the
kernel compiled without SMP.
I think it's a screwy BIOS/MB as I have the same problem (including
the computer turning itself on at 3am) on my aopen 6bc mb. It's single
processor though not quad (drool :). Anyways, went tot he homesite
and found an upgrade to the bios and one of the changes was a fix
for cpu detection that had something to do with the celeron.
I hope that fixes my hassles. I hate upgrading a BIOS.
