Yes, XF68_FBDev is very sloooow. but I have no problems
running XF86_SVGA and it seems pretty fast to me... (besides
that AX4.1 is not glibc based nor multithreaded and I have
a dual processor Apollo system).
What I do is to use the same mode for console and for X11
I get it with this line for lilo.conf (monitor is a 17" NEC)
append="video=matrox:xres:1024,right:16,hslen:96,left:176,yres:768,lower:1,vslen:3,upper:28,pixclock:12699,depth:32,nopan,fv:100,fh:65k"
And this is the corresponding XF86Config entry:
Modeline "1024x768" 80 1024 1040 1136 1312 768 769 772 800
No more relay 'clicks' in the monitor and weird things on changing
form X11 to console.
A fine work.
