I've had some trouble finding the official spec, but I think I now recall
it as being 16 inch maximum -- 14 inches is close enough to that after allowing
for extra cable capacitance and whatnot.

Sigh. Why can't the industry finally admit ATA/IDE/etc is a kludge and
switch to SCSI?
