Sounds reasonable. If 2.0.36 can mount it then it has a broken partition table
according to the standard
> Disk /dev/sda: 64 heads, 32 sectors, 606 cylinders
> Units = cylinders of 2048 * 512 bytes

Try fdisk -b 2048 for 2K blocks then it'll look most wrong.
