2.2.3-ac1 (and other 2.2.x) advansys doesn't work

We have an Advansys ABP940UW card, this works fine under the 2.0.36
kernel shipped with RedHat 5.2, but apon upgrading to 2.2 (along with
all the appropriate utilities) a "modprobe advansys" halts after finding
the first drive and locks up that console.
