Erm. Why not? I do it often. Every time I feel like nuking my linux
dir and starting a-fresh (more or less when I screw up a patch or
reversing from a patch is more trouble). I just run make oldconfig
and sail away...

I fail to see the purpose... Other then making things a bit neater.
