I agree. If memory use is a concern (IPv6 is quite large, admittedly) I think
it ought to work to have it as an auto-loaded module.
Now that glibc 2.1 has at least basic support for IPv6 it should also be
possible for the distributions to ship IPv6-enabled versions of the standard
programs.
