rwlock_t: is "previous" superflous?

include/asm/spinlock.h defines rw_lock_t as a structure with 2 long
values:
> typedef struct {
> volatile unsigned int lock;
> unsigned long previous;
>} rwlock_t;
I'm no expert for the GNU asm, but I see no reference to "previous".
