Version question..?

Hi. I have one question about kernel versions:

There was 0.*. Then, there was 1.0, 1.1.*, 1.2.*, then the famous 1.2.13.
That ok, but next: 1.3.*, 2.0.*! Where is all of the 1.[4..9].* ? I saw
1.99.* somewhere working, I know about existement of 1.8.*, but why there
is no such versions on Sunsite, tsx-11 ? Are they official ? And why
1.3 -> 2.0 ?
