I'm trying to compile a 2.0.24 kernel (patched up from 2.0.23, which
was patched with axp-diff-2.0.21) with all IP firewalling, forwarding,
and masquerading options turned on (I'm experimenting with stuff).

At the final build step, I get the following:

ld -warn-multiple-gp -static -Ttext 0xfffffc0000310000 -N \
arch/alpha/kernel/head.o init/main.o init/version.o \
arch/alpha/kernel/kernel.o arch/alpha/mm/mm.o kernel/kernel.o \

/usr/local/src/linux/arch/alpha/lib/lib.a -o vmlinux
net/network.a(ipv4.o): In function `rt_get_info':
/var/local/src/linux/net/ipv4/route.c:754: undefined reference to `ip_rcv'
ld: bfd assertion fail elf64-alpha.c:2312

What does "bfd assertion fail" mean? I assume it doesn't have
anything to do with the linker error (undefined reference to
`ip_rcv') that caused the link to fail.

My networking configuration:

CONFIG_FIREWALL=y
CONFIG_NET_ALIAS=y
CONFIG_INET=y
CONFIG_IP_FORWARD=y
CONFIG_IP_MULTICAST=y
CONFIG_IP_FIREWALL=y
CONFIG_IP_FIREWALL_VERBOSE=y
CONFIG_IP_MASQUERADE=y
CONFIG_INET_RARP=y
CONFIG_IP_NOSR=y
CONFIG_SKB_LARGE=y

This is on a RedHat 4.0/AXP installation, running on a Digital Multia.
