Of course it's _possible_ to do so, but experience shows that there are a few
common pitfalls that a lot of people get caught by when implementing the same
code. This is why there are now RFCs that explain some of the most frequent
implementation mistakes so that people can ignore them.

It's hard to be sure of that. You may not have discovered anything that will
kill it yet, but until the various flavours of teardrop exploit came out
people didn't know that you could kill Linux machines that way either.
