ip aliases in 2.1.109 have no /proc/net/dev entry

Just curious, I'm running 2.1.109 and there is no /proc/net/dev entry for
any of the ip aliases which I create. 2.0.x adds an entry like:

eth0:0: 2578 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

The problem is that I can't view any of the aliases by typing 'ifconfig', so
I don't know what is configured and what isn't (and what IP each is
configured to). Is there a new net-tools which fixes this?

It really bugs me since I need to remove an alias, but I can't figure out
alias interface is assigned to what IP.
