Maybe I'm not seeing something here, but wouldn't it be better to just not
chomp the path at all? i.e.
/dev/tty1 -> /dev/tty1
/dev/vc/0 -> /dev/vc/0
and perhaps just compare the last characters of the names listed in
securetty, for compatibility..
