I am not totally sure of this, but try recompiling your kernel without kmod (or
rather tell the kernel to use an external module loader). I had this problem
with kernels 2.4.x also, and the unresolved symbol was from the module loader I
believe. However, look at the output of insmod or modprobe to pinpoint the problem.
