Admittedly this is an extreme example, but I do consider:
init_data = of_get_regulator_init_data(<blah>);
if (init_data)
return -ENOMEM;
... neater than:
config.init_data = of_get_regulator_init_data(<blah>);
if (!config.init_data)
return -ENOMEM;
