OK so that's on me.

I don't want to hold back this important series over that, just go ahead
and rebase this on v7.3-rc1 and resend it and I will merge them.

If you want to use these helpers, I can simply merge the patches because
there is an ACK. But it'd be great if you could take a look as well, sorry
for missing to add you on CC.

Perfect is the enemy of good.

I often hold the stance that we should fix up minor nits in-tree rather
than at first merge.
