did I forget anything?
I installed the above in the proper places (I think, seemed fairly idiot proof 8*) and ran ldconfig -v several times during the process.
First problem:
All the binaries in procps 099a seem to work except top, everything else runs just fine. When I try and compile however I get errors about speed_t being undefined from /usr/include/termcap.h.
second problem: (bigger than first)
I need to recompile my kernel to use ppp and I get several errors:

I suspect that these problems may be stemming from something in libc and how I installed it. I tried to follow the instructions for all the things as best I could, but some things didn't have any
at all.
I think a good idea would be to put together a large package of things required to get going in a 1.3.X kernel and that way, one could be sure of getting the whole kahuna.
If anyone would like to enlighten me as to where in the process I may have screwed up, it would be great, please respond via mail as well as the list, it would be quicker.
The post 1.3.9x kernels are great, I have been waiting for nearly a year to upgrade past 1.3.90, spontaneous crashes and all that...
once I can compile kernels again, then I can move on to 1.3.98 <yay>
