Just a quick note to let you know it works (with a patch to 386 irq.c to
compile non SMP), swap performance is better than pre2, but still bad.
Here is my /proc/meminfo (i'm in X with Netscape, gimp, BitchX, rxvts,
mp3 player).

[snadge@shed snadge]$ cat /proc/meminfo
total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
Mem: 31735808 21381120 10354688 10530816 249856 9273344
Swap: 33218560 24735744 8482816
MemTotal: 30992 kB
MemFree: 10112 kB <-- This looks too much..
MemShared: 10284 kB
Buffers: 244 kB
Cached: 9056 kB <-- Why isn't free memory converted into this?
SwapTotal: 32440 kB
SwapFree: 8284 kB <-- Egads! Maybe swap should be cleaned up?

With 16mb of swap, my machine locks up every now and then with hard disk
activity for a few seconds, then returns to normal. I added another 16mb
swap (shown above) and things run a lot smoother but still could be
better. Now I've heard that having less swap space than physical RAM
isn't a good idea, but it makes a LOT of difference with this kernel.

Cheers,

Dave.
