nice chicken and egg problem

Here's a fun one --

I have to set the PNP setting in my BIOS to "Yes" in order to see my DEC
Tulip PCI ethernet card. I have to set the PNP in BIOS to "No" in order
to see my GUS PnP sound card.

When I can see the ethernet card, I can't see the sound card -- the probe
fails. When I can see the sound card, I can't see the ethernet card -- it
shows up on either IRQ 255 or IRQ 0. I've tried kernels with PnP support
in and out. Both work in 2.0.32 and I've only tested back to 91 on this
behaviour.

Is this a bug or a feature?
