2) To recompile kernel, am I absolutely obliged to have an another copy of
kernel source ??
3)Say that I m upgrading from my actual kernel 2.0.30 to 2.0.34.
Correct me in following steps:
1st: I put my copy of the kernel 2.0.34 in /usr/src
2nd step: As theres already my actual kernel source(2.0.30) in
/usr/src/linux, I should untar the source code in a separate
directory/Path..say /usr/src/linux 2.0.34.
3rd step: Then I execute make config from /usr/src/linux 2.0.34 folllowed
by make dep, make clean..etc.
Now comes the real deal: I wanna try the new kernel, but in case of
trouble, being able to boot with the old one as usual.
Say, my label to boot the old kernel 2.0.30 is "linux".
Should I go back to /etc/lilo.conf and just change the line label to
"linux" to have my old kernel back??
And how to impose the label "linux-new", for ie..to the new kernel
..just by changing the line label to "linux-new".
I just wanna make sure that I can boot again with old kernel ..
Thanks for helping
