Personally I don't think it is a kernel issue, but what do I
know... Ever since installing RedHat 5.1 it has occured. I have
used a variety of kernels from 2.0.3[1-5]. I haven't tried with
a 2.1.x but I nonetheless am getting the same trouble it sounds.

I have a standard SoundBlaster 16 Basic edition (a yellow
boxed real one, not a clone). I am not using sound at the times
that these problems occur. I am however using KDE, although it
did the same in fvwm too. I suspect X itself.

I hope someone finds the problem soon. I've had to reboot 3
times because of it...
