The best resource are two books: one is better than the other
IMHO:

1) Linux Device Drivers Rubini, Alessandro
ISBN: 1-56592-292-1
2) Linux Kernel Internals, many authors...
ISBN: 0-201-33143-8

the first has all kinds of really good information about kernel
functions followed by the second.
