I have a friend with a RedHat 5.0 system. It has patches installed up to
whatever was current in June. (Kernel 2.0.32)
The drive is a 10 gig ide drive with Linux on the first 6 gig and the rest is
Win 95. He has about 180 megs of ram on the box.
When a sync command is issued, you can hear the drive sync, but the sync
command never returns back to the prompt. `kill -9` will not kill the hung
sync process.
I am going to upgrade his system to a later version of RedHat, but I am very
currious if anyone has seen this problem and/or there is a known cause for this
behaviour. Since huge drives such as this are becoming more and more
available, this could become a big concern. (Or at lest a big entry in a FAQ
somewhere...)
