Yes, I had similar problems, as soon as my system started to swap.
I had the suspicion, that VMware's module breaks some assumptions made by
Andrea's changes to VM.
Andrea confirmed it: Andrea-VM is incompatible with VMware.
However, he's having a look at it, so it might get fixed soon.
