The users need to disable NMI watchdog when using ref-cycles. For example:

    # disable nmi_watchdog
    sysctl kernel.nmi_watchdog=0

    # use ref-cycles
    perf stat/record -e ref-cycles ...

    # reenable nmi_watchdog
    sysctl kernel.nmi_watchdog=1
