I wouldn't check against the downstream. The distinction is that
prepare() is called before enabling the video stream and as such it
usually contains commands to set up the panel parameters. The enable()
callback is called after starting the video stream, so it should just
turn on the image output, the backlight, etc..

Within the return. I think this might depend on the panel itself, see
how other panels handle toggling MIPI_DSI_MODE_LPM. E.g. panel-dsi-cm
or panel-novatek-nt35950 unsets MIPI_DSI_MODE_LPM at the end of
power_on. Some of the panels also toggle LPM while reading or updating
the backlight.
